Our Story

Originally constructed in 1901, The explosives magazine and detonator store at Stratford were constructed to house the explosives and detonators used in the rapidly expanding Far North Region. From early June 1942 until May 1945 the magazine was occupied by the Australian Military Forces to aid in the war effort, with a military guard of 19 men permanently stationed at the site.

On retaining ownership of the site, the current landowners have lovingly restored the facility to its former glory, with the intent to share these stunning buildings to allow others to enjoy, love and experience the buildings in the same way they do.
